Handle Anxiety at early stage!!!!!

Anxiety disorder is characterized by psychological and physiological symptoms that lead to stress, discomfort, and fear. Anxiety disorder is characterized by psychological and physiological symptoms that lead to stress, discomfort, and fear.

Psychological Impact: It involves persistent worrying, fear of  social situations, and phobias.

Physical Symptoms: Includes panic attacks with pounding heart, sweating, shaking, and shortness of breath.

Behavioural Signs: May manifest as avoidance of certain places        or people, paranoid thinking, and intrusive negative thoughts.

Anxiety leads to changes in behaviour which can be seen in terms of psychological and physiological conditions of individual.

Symptoms of anxiety disorder:

1.    Nervousness/Fear: Feelings of nervousness and/or fear.

2.    Worry/Panic: Excessive or irrational worry and panic attacks.

3.  Avoidance/Paranoia: An urge to avoid certain situations, places, or people, and paranoid thinking.

4.  Physical Symptoms: Nausea, dizziness, and other physical manifestations like a pounding heart and shortness of breath.

    List of symptoms of anxiety disorder in simple terms:

1.    Sudden mood change

2.    Anger

3.    Irritation

4.    Low self esteem

5.    Loneliness

6.    Depression

7.    Lack of interest

8.    Change of priorities

9.    Personality changes

10. Poor judgment

11. Negative attitude

12. Dishonesty

13. Starts arguments

14. Withdrawal symptoms

15. Family relation problem

16. Lacks intimate relationship

Certain physiological changes are also seen in severe anxiety cases:

1.    loss of memory

2.    Restlessness and fatigue

3.    Distortion in health

4.    Increase in heart rate

5.    Sweating

6.    Palpitation

7.    Confusion

8.    Irritation

9.    Weak immune system

10. Difficulty in speaking

     Causes for anxiety disorder could be:

1.    Repressed desires, 

2.    Repeated failure and striving for success

3. Mal-adjustment /adaption with the environment e.g. new surroundings, new jobs/friends.

4.    Personal cause- the type of personality (type A/B), emotional instability.

5.    Too much of fear for examination, inability to prepare.

6.    Ineffective parenting e.g. lacks nurturing and parental attachment, poor social coping skills inappropriately aggressive and shy behaviour, neighborhood conditions, negative attitude towards life.

Various counselling techniques such as Group therapy, Behaviour therapy, Environmental interventions, Supportive psychotherapy, Re-educated psychotherapy, Self-control training technique, Cognitive behaviour therapy, Individual Counselling can heal your anxiety.        

P.S: Early recognition of the symptoms of anxiety increases chances for successful treatment and favourable outcome. It is necessary to approach your counsellor for therapy. The role of counsellor is preventive, remedial, and educative.

Nurturing Responsible Mobile Device Usage Among Adolescents

In the rapidly advancing digital age, mobile devices have become an integral part of our daily lives. Among the most significant users of these devices are adolescents, who navigate the realms of social media, educational apps, and entertainment platforms. While mobile technology offers numerous benefits, it is crucial to instill a sense of responsibility in adolescents to ensure their healthy development and well-being. Adolescence is a crucial time for the development of the brain and emotions, and excessive use of mobile devices can interfere with sleep, decrease physical activity, and have a detrimental effect on mental health, so it's important to use them responsibly.

As adolescents grow more involved in world where information is easily accessible and communication is commonly mediated through computers, digital literacy has emerged as an essential component of education. Adolescent education in the digital age goes beyond traditional classroom courses; it includes equipping them with the skills and information needed to navigate the complicated and ever-changing world of technology. 

Teaching teenagers digital literacy skills is an important part of educating them about ethical mobile device usage. This includes educating kids on how to critically analyze online material, distinguish reliable sources from misinformation, and comprehend the consequences of their online actions. Adolescents can develop the ability to make informed judgments and constructively contribute to the online communities with which they interact by building a comprehensive grasp of the digital domain.

Another crucial lesson in adolescent education is how to balance screen time. Adolescents demand help with time management as technology becomes an increasingly significant part of their everyday lives. Educators can emphasize the importance of setting aside time for both online and offline activities in order to promote physical well-being, social connections, and the development of diverse skills outside of the digital environment.

In addition to practical skills, educators play an important role in raising awareness about cyberbullying and encouraging appropriate online behavior. Adolescents should be informed about the potential implications of their online words and actions, with the purpose of fostering empathy and kindness into their connections. By addressing the social and emotional aspects of digital citizenship, educators contribute to the creation of a positive online environment.

Furthermore, training regarding ethical mobile device use should occur outside of the classroom. Parents, as primary influencers in their children's life, should actively participate in reinforcing these teachings at home. Open lines of communication between instructors, parents, and teenagers are essential for fostering a collaborative approach to digital education.

To summarize, educating adolescents about safe mobile device usage is an important aspect of their entire development in the twenty-first century. We can empower adolescents to navigate the digital world responsibly by combining digital literacy education, time management guidance, and online behavior awareness, ensuring they become conscientious digital citizens prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the modern era.

Placement Stress

Placement Stress

 

'Placements', 'Jobs', 'Salary Packages' – these are common terms you hear during your placement season at college, home, relatives and …. everyone.

It is quite stressful, Isn’t It. But always remember – "It is not stress that hurts us, it is our reaction to it."

 

As human beings, developing stress at an important phase of life is absolutely normal. But the way you handle it and not letting it to make you underperform is very important.

Remember Campus Placements is also a slightly random process, where luck plays an important role in my opinion. It is by no means a clear testament of your calibre or potential.

Let me share with you few things about the stress that one experiences during placements and ways you can handle and adjust to it.

Placements consist of about 5 stages through which stress keeps accumulating-

  •  Resume making
  •  Preparation
  • Company Tests
  • Release of Shortlist
  • The Final Interviews.

1.     Students often panic as they start comparing their resumes among each other as this decides whether they will get selected for the job or not. Learning from someone else is a great thing, but stressing out because of self-doubt and inferiority complex is detrimental to you. One should believe in oneself and back his/her strengths rather than worrying about what others have on their resume.

2.     Remember the Placement deadlines are strict. Ensure to make your resume on time to get reviewed by your faculty, seniors and prepare the final draft well in advance to avoid unnecessary stress. 

3.     Aptitude and technical Preparation for placement is one of the most stressful times of placements. Managing academics, completing projects, preparing for additional exams, preparing for different fields of your choices etc, with so much on hand it is natural human tendency to freak out when you see huge tasks coming on your way. But what matters is how you handle this huge chunk of tasks in relatively short span of time. Please relax, make a time table for the day to allocate hours for placement preparations, academics, refreshing activities. Follow the schedule diligently.

4.  During the preparation too, you should focus on your preparation and continue following your plan of action instead of panicking because your peer is doing something else for preparation. During any discussion with your peers if you find something worthwhile, incorporate that into your timeline and do it as per your schedule rather than becoming panic. 

5. On the written test day, one important aspect to ace in the test is to go in without any  tension. Stay calm, trust your preparation, do not think of your peers preparation level. The most important aspect is self-confidence

6.     Some exams may go well and some may not. People often freak out after messing up one exam and let that stress affect the other exams as well. This is one thing everyone should try to avoid. If one written test did not go as per expectation, leave it there, and move on. 

7.     Next stress building phase is the shortlisting process. You see your peers getting shortlisted, surely the pressure builds up, you start frightening. This fear would only hurt you and hamper your preparation for other firms. The key is to remain calm and focussed and keep trying your chance. 

8.     Finally, the stress levels reach its peak when you have to face interview. Tensed look becomes a common sight at the interview board. One thing to keep in mind is – In life there will be rejections and acceptances, but we ought to remain calm in both the situations. If you get placed, you should be there during the next placement process helping your peers instead of celebrating. 

9.     The ones who face rejection should take the positives and learn from the interview and be ready for the upcoming interviews. No doubt seeing your friends getting placed, while you are facing rejections can be disheartening, but the ones who get depressed sink further down. Instead, they should pull up their socks, pump up themselves with confidence.

Prepare for Campus Placement

Preparing for campus placement is the first step in preparing for your professional life ahead. Campus placement examination is a two step process: 

1. Written Exam

2. Interview Rounds

 

1. Prepare for Written Exam:

ü Solve aptitude-based questions at least 50 in each question type test constantly & consistently.

ü Search for previous aptitude test papers & solve them to get hands-on experience.

ü Talk to your seniors in your domain & get their guidance for tips.

ü Please be open to take feedback.

ü Work with resources such as Practice set books, sample papers & practice papers.

ü Acquire in-depth knowledge of your core field as much as you can.

ü Students who do not belong to Computer Science allied branches must also prepare for basic computer knowledge and simple coding. 


2. Interview Round:

To pass a campus placement, along with the proper preparation for written exams, the right attitude and integrity can help you get hired. I recall this statement “A mediocre person with integrity is better than an excellent person with crooked mentality” Shared with me by an HR person.

Steps to prepare to ace an interview:


#1: Do your homework.

Do some research and learn about the company you are called for interview. You can visit their website and learn as much as you can. Being prepared will also minimize your anxiety.

#2: Dress appropriately.

Dress for the occasion. Current trend is business-casual attire, but it's still ok to wear a business-formal. Be sure to shake hands firmly and maintain eye contact.

#3 Be confident.

Make sure you can speak confidently about any experiences you've had in the workplace and in the classroom. Specific examples of how you've contributed to an organization or learned something exciting are of interest in the interviewer’s perspective. You have been called for the interview, as they have seen potential in you, so be sure to sell yourself by promoting your skills and abilities.

#4 Stay composed.

Being composed in the workplace is crucial. And an interview is a good measurement of how you handle pressure.

#5: Ask questions.

Jotting down the questions you would like to ask the interviewer about the company will lessen your anxiety. It demonstrates that you are interested in them and wants to know who they are, what they do etc.

#6: Get clarification.

If you don't understand a question posed by the interviewer, don't hesitate...ask them to repeat it. If you know exactly what they are asking, you have a better shot at giving your best answer

#7: Follow up.

It's a good practice to thank interviewers for their time. You may also request for a business card from the person or people that you meet with and sending a note to each one as soon as possible after the interview. This helps to build a professional network.
