Handle Anxiety at early stage!!!!!

Anxiety disorder is characterized by psychological and physiological symptoms that lead to stress, discomfort, and fear. Anxiety disorder is characterized by psychological and physiological symptoms that lead to stress, discomfort, and fear.

Psychological Impact: It involves persistent worrying, fear of  social situations, and phobias.

Physical Symptoms: Includes panic attacks with pounding heart, sweating, shaking, and shortness of breath.

Behavioural Signs: May manifest as avoidance of certain places        or people, paranoid thinking, and intrusive negative thoughts.

Anxiety leads to changes in behaviour which can be seen in terms of psychological and physiological conditions of individual.

Symptoms of anxiety disorder:

1.    Nervousness/Fear: Feelings of nervousness and/or fear.

2.    Worry/Panic: Excessive or irrational worry and panic attacks.

3.  Avoidance/Paranoia: An urge to avoid certain situations, places, or people, and paranoid thinking.

4.  Physical Symptoms: Nausea, dizziness, and other physical manifestations like a pounding heart and shortness of breath.

    List of symptoms of anxiety disorder in simple terms:

1.    Sudden mood change

2.    Anger

3.    Irritation

4.    Low self esteem

5.    Loneliness

6.    Depression

7.    Lack of interest

8.    Change of priorities

9.    Personality changes

10. Poor judgment

11. Negative attitude

12. Dishonesty

13. Starts arguments

14. Withdrawal symptoms

15. Family relation problem

16. Lacks intimate relationship

Certain physiological changes are also seen in severe anxiety cases:

1.    loss of memory

2.    Restlessness and fatigue

3.    Distortion in health

4.    Increase in heart rate

5.    Sweating

6.    Palpitation

7.    Confusion

8.    Irritation

9.    Weak immune system

10. Difficulty in speaking

     Causes for anxiety disorder could be:

1.    Repressed desires, 

2.    Repeated failure and striving for success

3. Mal-adjustment /adaption with the environment e.g. new surroundings, new jobs/friends.

4.    Personal cause- the type of personality (type A/B), emotional instability.

5.    Too much of fear for examination, inability to prepare.

6.    Ineffective parenting e.g. lacks nurturing and parental attachment, poor social coping skills inappropriately aggressive and shy behaviour, neighborhood conditions, negative attitude towards life.

Various counselling techniques such as Group therapy, Behaviour therapy, Environmental interventions, Supportive psychotherapy, Re-educated psychotherapy, Self-control training technique, Cognitive behaviour therapy, Individual Counselling can heal your anxiety.        

P.S: Early recognition of the symptoms of anxiety increases chances for successful treatment and favourable outcome. It is necessary to approach your counsellor for therapy. The role of counsellor is preventive, remedial, and educative.
